SPONSOR ME!
Thank you for your interest in an amazing cause!

A few fellow Library and Information Science students and I have gotten a group together to participate in the Stephen Lewis Foundations' "A Dare to Remember."  We are hoping to make a modest contribution to the Foundation's efforts to alleviate the effects of AIDS in Africa, while sharing our love for librarianship.

I encourage you to make a contribution to this project, or to even take on a dare yourself.  It can be a great excuse to do something good for yourself (like quit smoking!), while doing something great for others. Please feel free to distribute this amongst your friends and colleagues.

You can find my donation page at http://stephenlewisfoundation.akaraisin.com/p/iheartlibrarians.aspx.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The Stephen Lewis Foundation supports community-based organizations working to turn the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa. In the words of the foundation..

"Since we started the Stephen Lewis Foundation six years ago, we've based our funding model on a simple, yet powerful idea: that when you put money directly into the hands of communities, great things happen. We've worked to create a new way of funding that is sensitive, responsive and flexible - one that avoids bureaucratic red-tape and ensures that the money goes where it's most needed.  The grassroots organizations we work with are pioneering effective and sophisticated responses to HIV and AIDS in their communities. Since 2003, we've funded more than 300 grassroots projects in 15 countries to support the ordinary people - grandmothers, women and children - who have been affected by the AIDS pandemic. In country after country, we have seen lives and hope restored."

ABOUT THE DARE

We are taking to the streets of Toronto this Saturday, October 24th.  Here, we will be soliciting the public to share anecdotes about what libraries mean to them, offering to take their photograph with a large sign that reads "I [heart] LIBRARIANS," echoing Milton Glaser's iconographic "I [heart] NY" logo.  We will be posting these stories and photographs on our blog, which you can find at http://iheartlibrarians.tumblr.com/.  We will be directing those we have encountered throughout the day to our blog, and hope that they will reblog their entry, post their photo on Twitter, or use their photo as their profile picture on Facebook.  We will also be distributing literature about the Foundation, distributing home-made red AIDS awareness ribbons, and accepting donations on behalf of the Foundation.  We are excited to have this opportunity to share our love for librarianship, while raising money for an absolutely amazing organization.
